Benna Su Analog electronics lab 1

1)Breadboards .

So breadboard is an really important component for building an analog electronics circuit. We use Jameco Solderless Breadboards for this class. First of all, you can see huge amount of wholes in the boards, and it is actually used for plug in the wires, the resistors, the LED lights, all different kinds of electronics pieces, and it is reusable. As you can see, the middle two parts of wholes we call them rows, and there is a line seperating them which means the left part rows can not connect to the right part row. Each side of rows can only connect to the power rail and ground rail which locates all the way to the left with blue line and red line marked and all the way to the right with blue and red marked as well. Usually the battery is connecting from power rail to ground rail, and the circuit builds from the rail to rows.

3) Multimeters

So Multimeter is actually a great efficient and helpful tool for us to measure and monitor the current,voltage,etc.. in our circuits . It is helpful because you can define any troubleshooting while you build your circuit, and with multimeters you can easily find your mistake from any part and fix it. In order to use it, you have to use the black bar and white bar simultaneously touching on part of the circuit from one side to the other side.For example, if you want to measure the voltage of the battery, you must use the red bar to touch the positive output, and the black bar to touch the negative output.

4)Trouble shooting(There will also be another new page for trouble shooting)

1. I accidentally plug the battery in to the breadboard reversely, positive into black and negative into red. But I immediately found out that.
2. I plug the wires into the wrong row of potentiometer.

5) My favorite final projects!!!

1.The first one I like is David Kim’s synthesizer. He built a synthesizer that can control pitch change by using vibrato. It actually reminds me of the old analog synthesizer from last century. The Buchla, the VCS,etc.. It was really cool and I might consider build one by myself.

2. The second one is Tia’s GUitar pedal. It was pretty cool because you can control the distortion and the filter at same time in a small project. Although I felt like the circuit might be a little bit complicated, I would like to try build one if I am capable.

3.The last one is Cameron Koo’s filter design. He design the filter that can use as lowpass filter, high pass filter, bandpass filter… That was really cool. It is quite helpful by using this tool in DJ industry. I would really like to build one for myself as well.
